Sunday May 19 - London Majors 5 Brantford Red Sox 1

Brantford had better weather on Sunday for their (now) season opener hosting London. A pitching duel broke out, with Red Sox starter Josh Laukkanen and the Majors' Travis both pitching shutouts through the first 4 innings. London found the scoreboard in the 5th, scoring via a solo shot, the only blemish on Laukkanen's outing. The Majors would strike again off the Red Sox bullpen in the 7th and 8th, amassing a 5-0 lead. Brantford threatened a rally in the 9th, loading the bases and scoring one via a hit by pitch with no outs. But the Brantford bats fizzled after that, failing to add on and leaving the visitors with a 5-1 win.

Josh Laukkanen had a solid first outing for the Sox, allowing just the one run over 5 innings of work. Ricardo Alvarez de Lugo and Norman Coleman-Goodwin both pitched clean innings of relief. Gus Wilson led the way at the plate, going 2 for 4 with the lone run scored.

Friday May 24 - Welland Jackfish 6 Brantford Red Sox 3

Brantford opened the second week of the season hosting the defending IBL champions from Welland. Despite the two teams' disparate records in 2023,  their games against each other were always competitive. Their first meeting this year continued along the same lines. Brantford struck first, loading the bases in the bottom of the 1st with no outs. The Sox scored a single courtesy of a Nick Burdett sacrifice fly, but were unable to capitalize any further. The visitors answered back with a half-dozen runs by the 4th inning to take a 6-1 lead. Burdett would put Brantford back on the board in the 5th via a 2 run blast, his first of the season. But that would end the scoring on the night, with the Sox dropping this one 6-3.

Brantford starter Isaiah Ramos was charged with the loss, yielding 4 runs over 3 innings of work. Ricardo Alvarez de Lugo and Aiden Armitage kept the Sox in the game, combining for 5 shutout relief innings. Burdett led the offence, going 1 for 3 with 3 RBI.

Saturday May 25 - Brantford Red Sox 2 Barrie Baycats 3

Brantford visited Barrie for their first road game of the season. The homeside struck first, scoring two via a pair of solo shots off Red Sox starter Josh Laukkanen. Brantford finally responded in the 7th, evening things up with a pair of runs. But the Baycats would answer right back in the bottom of the inning, scoring the game winner in the eventual 3-2 final.

Josh Laukkanen once again delivered a solid performance in his 2nd start of the season, going 6 innings and yielding just 2 runs (notably all of his runs allowed so far this season have been via home runs). Gus Wilson led the way at the plate going 2 for 4. Jeremie Veilleux went 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Sunday May 26 - Brantford Red Sox 13 Kitchener Panthers 6

Brantford wrapped the second week of the season visiting the Kitchener Panthers. The Sox quickly pounced on the Panthers, sending 8 batters to the plate and scoring 3 in the first. Kitchener responded with a pair, but Brantford went right back to work scoring singles in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings to take a sizeable 6-2 lead.  Sox starter Jeremias Sucre got himself into trouble in the bottom of the 4th, loading the bases with no outs. But Brantford minimized the damage, allowing just a pair of runs to retain a 6-4 lead after 4.

The Red Sox would not let up for the remainder of the game, continuing to answer back to every rally attempt by the Panthers. Brantford added 7 more runs to claim their first win of the season with a 13-6 final.

For Brantford, Gus Wilson and newly signed Vaibhav Desai each homered. Wilson (a triple away from hitting for the cyctle) and another new signee Jordan Lewis each contributed a trio of hits and a pair of RBI. Lewis also stole 4 bases, and now has a team leading 5 on the season. Jeremie Veilleux also went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Red Sox starter Jeremias Sucre gave up 4 runs on 6 hits over 5 innings on his way to earning the win.
