Thursday May 30 - Brantford Red Sox 3 Welland Jackfish 8

The Brantford Red Sox (1-3) kicked off a grueling 4 games in 4 days stretch Thursday night in Welland (3-3). The two teams previously met the week before in Brantford, with the visitors coming out on top 6-3.

The Red Sox started off strong, taking a 3-0 lead into the middle of the 5th thanks to anther quality start from rookie Josh Laukkanen who has quickly established himself as one of the best pitchers in the league. Welland responded with a single in the bottom of the inning to cut Brantford's lead to 3-1.

Unfortunately for the Sox, just 3 total runs are not going to win you many games in the IBL, especially against the defending champions. Brantford's bats then went cold, and their bullpen melted down in the 8th allowing 7 runs. The Red Sox drop the rematch in Welland by a 8-3 final.

Laukkanen's final line on the night was 5 innings pitched, allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits while striking out 6. Norman Coleman-Goodwin was effective once again in middle relief, throwing a clean inning. Aiden Armitage was charged with the loss, allowing 5 earned runs. 2023 IBL Rookie of the Year Matt Fabian led the way at the plate going 3 for 3 with 1 run scored. Last week's IBL Player of the Week Gus Wilson was 2 for 5 with an RBI. Jeremie Veilleux and Vaibhav Desai also each contributed  a pair of hits. Brantford left a season-high 11 runners on base.

Friday May 31 - Brantford Red Sox 7  London Majors 11

The Red Sox (1-4) travelled to London on Friday night to take on the first place Majors (5-1). The two teams met previously in Brantford’s home opener, with the visitors besting the Red Sox 5-1.

Brantford failed to convert on early opportunites which would prove costly. Although managing to load the bases in both the 2nd and 3rd innings on 5 walks and just 1 hit, the Red Sox failed to score. London struck early, scoring 4 in the 2nd inning, and amassing an insurmountable 9-2 lead after 5. Brantford staged a late 9th inning rally to keep the score respectable, but it was too little too late as they dropped this one 11-7.

Red Sox starter Isaiah Ramos had a rough outing in his 2nd start of the season, allowing 6 runs on 7 hits in just 3 innings of work. Damian Clarke pitched an inning of clean relief, striking out 1.

Jaret Lupton led the way at the plate, going 2 for 4 with an RBI. Brantford reached base 10 times via walk, and stranded a new season high 12 runners.
