2023 Brantford Red Sox Season Preview

BRANTFORD - The Brantford Red Sox open up their 2023 Intercounty Baseball League season later this week! Here are some notes for the upcoming season:

Game info

  • Brantford opens up their 2023 schedule at home on May 19 vs. the Kitchener Panthers. This date marks the Brantford Red Sox's 112th anniversary, with the team's first game taking place in the Canadian League on May 19, 1911 vs. Kitchener (then Berlin). Fans in attendance on Opening Day will have a chance to win a limited edition 2023 Opening Day t-shirt courtesy of Brantford Apparel, the official fan gear provider of the Brantford Red Sox.
  • Brantford's fans have long asked for more weekend games, and the Brantford Red Sox have listened. New for 2023 - no more Wednesday night games. All Brantford Red Sox home games this season are scheduled for Friday nights (10 games),  Saturday nights (7 games), and Sunday afternoons (4 games).   • The Brantford Red Sox have held the line on ticket prices for 2023, offering the lowest admission cost across the board in the Intercounty Baseball League
  • Brantford once again hosts a special Canada Day game, taking on the Kitchener Panthers Saturday July 1 at 8 pm.
  • Fans can enjoy a refreshing beverage at the ballpark by visiting the newly renovated Coco's Corner. The Brantford Red Sox proudly support their fellow small businesses by serving Brantford's own Mash Paddle Brewing, and also Crafty Elk Organic Hard Juice & Vodka.
  • The Brantford Red Sox are excited to partner with and welcome many community groups to the ballpark this season, including Lansdowne Children's Centre, St. Theresa and Christ the King schools, the Brantford Professional Firefighters Association, and the Brantford Minor Baseball and Softball Associations. 
  • Brantford wraps up the regular season at home on Sunday August 20 hosting the 2-time defending IBL champion London Majors

Roster INFO

  • Nick Burdett returns for his 10th season with the Brantford Red Sox. Over the past decade Nick has won an IBL championship, was an IBL all-star, and appeared in 308 career games, recording 313 hits in 1108 at bats. The 29 year old league veteran has spent his entire career with the Brantford Red Sox, and is a team leader both off and on the the field. Last season Nick sat atop the team's stats in hits (42) and home runs (5) while posting a .309 batting average.
  • The 2023 Brantford Red Sox feature a number of local players including Burdett, Gabe Bruder, and Aiden Colangelo. Also, homegrown talent Danny Howat, Jaret Lupton and Evan Ryan join the Sr. Sox after a successful 2022 season with the OBA 22U A Provincial Champion Brantford Jr. Red Sox.
  • New faces to the Branford Red Sox in 2023 include infielder Kieran Bowles, pitchers Mark Dozier, Noah Falkenberg, and Jeremias Sucre, and catcher Jeremie Veilleux.
  • Also new to the Brantford Red Sox is Shawn Whiteley, who takes the reins as Field Manager for the upcoming season.
