Brantford Red Sox Sign 1B Josiah Devapalan
BRANTFORD, ON – The Brantford Red Sox, members of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL), are proud to announce the signing of first baseman Josiah Devapalan of Brampton, Ontario.
Devapalan made his IBL debut in 2022, appearing in eight games between the Welland Jackfish and Hamilton Cardinals, where he hit .227 (5-for-22) with one RBI. In 2024, he had a standout season at Northwestern Oklahoma State, batting .407 (46-for-113) with eight doubles, four home runs, and 29 RBIs. He is currently continuing his collegiate career at the University of Rio Grande, where he's hitting .352 (31-for-88) with seven doubles, one home run, and 20 RBIs over 29 games.
"Josiah was a young hitter when he debuted in 2022, but you could see the potential even then," said Red Sox General Manager Jeff Lounsbury. "The ball comes off his bat hard. Over the last two seasons in college, he's shown steady progress — hitting in the middle of his team's lineup and producing both average and power. He’s still very young and just needs the opportunity to showcase his skills in the IBL."
“I’m excited to suit up for the Brantford Red Sox this summer,” said Devapalan. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to compete at a high level, represent this organization, and continue growing as a player. I can’t wait to get to work.”
