BRANTFORD, ON - The Brantford Red Sox, members of the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL), are excited to announce the signing of import outfielder Ty Smith from Elizabethton, Tennessee.

Smith, a junior at Tusculum University, is currently hitting .356 with nine doubles and two home runs, leading his team in multiple offensive categories, including doubles, extra-base hits, home runs, and slugging percentage.

In South Atlantic Conference play, Smith has been even more dominant, batting .438 while leading the conference in doubles (8) and ranking fourth in slugging percentage (.875).

Standing at 6’2” and 212 lbs, Smith is known for his exceptional speed, defensive prowess, and raw power. His ability at the plate was on full display recently when he launched home runs measuring 444 feet and 409 feet, both with exit velocities of 110 mph.

Before college, Smith attended IMG Academy, where he was a standout three-sport athlete in high school. He was named All-State in football, track, and baseball, earning Conference Player of the Year honors in all three. On the football field, he excelled as a wide receiver and safety. On the track, he dominated the 100m, 200m, 400m, and triple jump. In baseball, he played centerfield and posted an eye-popping .645 batting average. His achievements culminated in receiving the Conference Athlete of the Year, the highest athletic honor awarded to the top multi-sport performer.

Beyond his playing abilities, Smith is expected to be an impactful mentor, coach, and role model for young athletes. His commitment to community involvement makes him a perfect fit for the Red Sox, who will be working closely with the YMCA, local schools, the BGC, Brantford Minor Baseball and Softball Associations, and at the team’s free Red Sox Baseball Camps for children.

Brantford Red Sox General Manager Jeff Lounsbury expressed his excitement about the signing:

“I am so excited to have Ty join us this summer. We are looking to become a more athletic team and he possesses many tools that will help us on the field. Off the field, he will give us so much more as we forge our new brand and reconnect with the baseball fans and the community of the city of Brantford and Brant County.”

The Brantford Red Sox were founded in 1911 and have won 15 Intercounty Baseball League titles. GAMES for the 2025 season are FREE.
