Brantford Red Sox Sign Shamil Ubiera
The Brantford Red Sox, members of the Intercounty Baseball League, are proud to announce the signing of Shamil Ubiera for the upcoming season.
Shamil is 28 year old outfielder hailing from La Romana, Dominican Republic. He was signed by the Chicago Cubs as a non-drafted free agent in 2012, and has played for the Cubs' Dominican Summer League and Arizona League affiliates. Shamil posted a .283 batting average, a .349 on-base percentage and a .420 slugging percentage in 168 MiLB career games played. In 2013 he was named the DSL Cubs' Most Valuable Player.
Shamil's resume also boasts vast international experience, having played for the White Sands Pupfish in the independent Pecos League, the Toros del Este in the Dominican Winter League, and the Niigata Albirex Baseball Club in Japan's Shikoku Island League Plus.
