Chris Ortega Named CBL Player of the Week

The Brantford Red Sox are proud to congratulate Chris Ortega on being named the Canadian Baseball League (CBL) Player of the Week for the final full week of June after an outstanding stretch at the plate.

Ortega was one of the league's hottest hitters from June 23-28, putting together an impressive four-game performance that helped lead the Red Sox to a pair of thrilling victories while consistently producing in the middle of the lineup.

Over the four-game span, the Miami, Florida native posted a .458 batting average (8-for-18) while scoring five runs, blasting three home runs, driving in nine RBIs, and collecting one double. He also reached base at a .500 clip and finished the week with a remarkable 1.361 OPS, cementing himself as one of the most dangerous hitters in the league.

Ortega's week began on the road in Guelph, where he went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs, providing much of Brantford's offense in a hard-fought contest.

He followed that performance with one of his best all-around games of the season in Barrie, collecting three hits, including a double, while driving in two runs to help power the Red Sox to an impressive 8-6 comeback victory over the first-place Baycats.

Back at Arnold Anderson Stadium against the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers, Ortega continued to swing a hot bat, finishing 2-for-5 with another home run, three RBIs, two runs scored, and helping the Red Sox complete an unforgettable 14-13 comeback victory.

He capped off the week on Sunday against the Guelph Royals by launching his third home run of the week while reaching base twice and driving in another run.

Ortega's consistent production throughout the week made him one of the toughest outs in the CBL. Whether delivering timely extra-base hits or driving runners home in key situations, he played a major role in the Red Sox offense during one of the club's most exciting stretches of the season.

Through his first 17 games with Brantford, Ortega has established himself as one of the team's most reliable middle-of-the-order bats, combining power with timely hitting and providing a steady veteran presence in the lineup.
