Grand Slam Gets The Sox Again

by B. Young

For the second night in a row on Friday, The Brantford Red Sox saw an early lead disappear due to a grand slam and could not recover.

Brantford led the visiting Barrie Baycats 5-0 after 2 innings, chasing Baycats starter Kevin Millar from the game. But with 2 outs in the 3rd, the Baycats loaded the bases on 3 straight walks and Barrie DH Ryan Rijo capitalized with a grand slam to right field. Brantford's bats went cold the rest of the night with only 2 more hits, while the visiting Baycats added on 4 more runs leading to a Barrie Baycats 9 Brantford Red Sox 5 final score.

Jesse Fishbaum had 2 hits, a stolen base, 1 run scored and 1 RBI for Brantford. Gianfranco Morello added a hit, a stolen base, and 2 runs scored.

Brantford now has a day off to regroup before hosting the Hamilton Cardinals on Sunday July 18 in their first afternoon game of the season, game time is 2 pm at Arnold Anderson Stadium.  Tickets are available at the gate and at brantfordredsox.com/tickets
