Brantford Red Sox vs. London Majors

Wednesday July 10, 2019 - Arnold Anderson Stadium

The Brantford Red Sox entered Wednesday’s game against the Majors coming off their second win of the year in Toronto, and looking for their first home win of the season.

Matt McGovern got the start for the Sox. After surrendering a 3 run home run to London’s Cleveland Brownlee in the first inning, he would go on to pitch another 5 innings of shutout ball. And the Sox would quickly pick up their pitcher in the 2nd inning, answering back with 3 runs of their own.

Brantford and London took the 3-3 tie all the way to the 8th inning, when the Majors would score 2 off Red Sox reliever Victor Mueses to take a 5-3 lead. But Brantford’s bats were not done answering back on this night.

After reliever Mike Mueller and the Brantford defence shut down London in the top of the 9th, Brantford rallied. Jesse Fishbaum walked, then advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch. Dougie Parks followed that up with a walk. Nick Burdett then loaded the bases via error. Chris Iltshishin came to the plate and would play the hero, emptying the bags with a double and giving Brantford their first home win of the year in walkoff fashion, with a 6-5 final score.

Brantford plays their next 2 games on the road, Thursday July 11 in Welland and Friday July 12 in Hamilton, before returning home on Sunday July 14. Sunday’s game is our last afternoon start time of the season  and it is also Leon’s Day, with free admission for all courtesy of Leon’s!
