Welland Jackfish at Brantford Red Sox

June 2, 2019 - Arnold Anderson Stadium

The Brantford Red Sox (1-5) faced the Welland Jackfish (3-3)  for the second time this season.  Brantford was coming off a tough 9-1 loss in Kitchener the day before and looking to rebound in front of their hometown crowd. Today a pitcher's duel would ensue.

Brady Cappe made his 2nd start for the Sox.  He put forth an amazing effort, striking out 10 Welland batters while surrendering just 5 hits and allowing no runs in 6 complete innings pitched.  Brantford was unable to provide Cappe with any run support however, and he would leave the game with a no decision.

Victor Mueses took over on the mound in the 7th inning and proved just as dominant, striking out 7 while allowing just one hit.  Unfortunately a pair of walks and stolen bases in the 9th inning, paired with an error on the stolen base attempt allowed Welland to score a run. Brantford was unable to match it in the bottom of the 9th, final score Welland 1 Brantford 0.

Brantford's struggles as a team at the plate continued today.  Luis Perez led the Sox with 2 hits, with Nick Burdett, Chris Iltshishin and Toure Parpit-Sinclair each contributing a hit.  Despite this, Brantford did only strike out 4 times total on the day.
