Bad 1st Inning Sinks The Sox

by B. Young

The Kitchener Panthers paid their first visit this season to Brantford on Friday night to take on the Red Sox. Brantford came into the game with momentum from winning their previous 2 games, but unfortunately the streak would end there.

A rough 1st inning for the home side would see the visiting Panthers bring 12 batters to the plate, scoring 7 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks.  Kitchener extended their lead to 9-0 by the 3rd inning before Brantford would start to respond, eventually narrowing the Panthers' lead to 10-4. But a 4 run 6th inning by Kitchener would put the game out of reach. Final score Kitchener 15 Brantford 7.

Mike Deluca and Gianfranco Morello each had a pair of hits and runs scored for Brantford.

Next up for the Red Sox is a return visit to Hamilton on Sunday to do battle once again with the Cardinals.  This is the 4th meeting of the teams in the past 2 weeks, with Brantford leading the season series 2 games to 1.  Game time is 2:05 pm at Bernie Arbour Stadium.  Brantford's next home game is Wednesday August 4 hosting the defending IBL Champion Barrie Baycats with an 8 pm start time at Arnold Anderson Stadium.
