Brantford Red Sox vs. Barrie Baycats

Intercounty Baseball League Quarterfinals, Game 4

Tuesday August 13, 2019 - Arnold Anderson Stadium, Brantford

The Brantford Red Sox hosted the Barrie Baycats in game 4 of their best of 7 Intercounty Baseball League quarterfinals series.  Win and Brantford would live to play another day, lose and their 2019 season would be over.  As in game 3, Brantford was working with a depleted roster, and player flexibility and versatility would be on full display this evening.  More on that in a bit...

Barrie, looking to wrap up the series and get some rest before the semifinals, struck first with a pair of runs in the first inning, followed up by 3 runs in the second.  They led 5-0 after 2 innings and that's all they would need to secure the series.  The Baycats added on one more run in the 6th inning making 6-0 the final score.  Barrie wins the series 4 games to 0 and advances to the IBL Semifinals.

Anthony Rizquez and Matt McGovern each had a pair of hits for Brantford.  Nick Burdett, Austin Wilkie and Chris Iltshishin also contributed a hit apiece.

Starting pitcher Mike Mueller went 6 innings for Brantford, he was relieved in the 7th inning by first baseman Matt McGovern. Fans in attendance may have noticed that Gianfranco Morello, often a fixture in Brantford's infield, began the game in left field.  In the second inning, he shifted to centre field. In the third inning, right field.  A pattern was emerging.  By the end of the night, Morello played all 9 positions - culminating in catching a scoreless 8th inning, then pitching a 3 up 3 down 9th inning.

That's a wrap on the Brantford Red Sox's 2019 Intercounty Baseball League season.  Stay tuned to brantfordredsox.com, as well as the team's social media pages for news and information during the offseason.
