Brantford Drops First Half Of Home-And-Home

by B. Young

The Brantford Red Sox headed to Barrie on Tuesday night to take on the Baycats. This was the first of a home-and-home series, with the two teams meeting again Wednesday night in Brantford.

The homeside Baycats struck first, scoring 1 on a sacrifice fly in the 1st inning.  Brantford answered back in the 2nd, with Jacob Reid getting a free pass via hit by pitch, then advancing on a wild pitch, then being driven in by Robbie Gauthier.  Gauthier would then advance on another wild pitch but was left stranded.  Baycats and Red Sox were tied 1-1 in the middle of the 2nd inning.

Brantford would briefly take the lead in the 5th inning. Gauthier singled, then stole 2nd, then advanced to 3rd on a passed ball, then was brought home by a Jesse Fishbaum single. Fishbaum would then steal 2nd, but was stranded.  Baycats answered back in their half of the inning however with a trio of runs to take a 4-2 lead into the 6th inning.

After Barrie scored another trio of runs, Brantford's bats awoke with 2 outs in the 8th inning via a Liam Sutherland single. Nick Burdett then singled in Sutherland, and was joined on base by a Jacob Reid single. That's as far as the Sox would rally though, making it a Barrie 7 Brantford 3 final.
