Red Sox Make It Two In a Row in Welland
Hot on the heels of their win in Hamilton on Tuesday, the Brantford Red Sox looked to make it 2 in a row as they visited the Welland Jackfish on Thursday night.
The Sox and the Jackfish were deadlocked 0-0 until the 5th inning when Brantford's bats broke through. Nick Burdett walked, then was moved over by a Robbie Gauthier single. Mike Deluca then doubled in Burdett, and Gianfranco Morello drove in Gauthier and Deluca. Red Sox led the Jackfish 3-0 in the middle of the 5th. Unfortunately Brantford's trend of giving runs right back continued, and Welland closed the gap to 3-2 heading into the 6th inning.
Brantford added on some insurance in the 7th. A Burdett single was followed up by a Zach Lampreia double. Burdett was then brought home by Deluca, and Morello drove in Lampreia. Sox took a 5-2 lead into the 7th inning stretch.
Brantford added on another pair in the 8th courtesy of a Liam Sutherland 2 run blast to left field, his first home run of the year. Welland threatened in the 9th inning scoring one, but left the bases loaded as Brantford secured the 7-3 victory.
Starter Adam Jafine pitched a complete game 3 hitter for Brantford, striking out 7 while yielding just 3 runs (1 earned).
