Red Sox at Welland - Game 3

WELLAND - Down 2 games to 0, Brantford entered Game 3 of their Best of 5 playoff series vs. Welland in a must-win situation. The Red Sox sent their #3 starter Jeremias Sucre to the mound, who had struggled since returning after a month off. Sucre gave up 6 runs in each of his 2 last starts, while sporting an ERA just shy of 13.00. 

The hometown Jackfish kicked off the scoring with a 4 run 2nd inning. But Brantford responded in the 3rd. Matt Fabian, back again from college for Saturday's games, hit a 2 out single. Kieran Bowles followed up with a single of his own, advancing Fabian to 3rd.. Fabian capitalized by scoring on a wild pitch for Brantford's first run of the game.  The Red Sox then loaded the bases for Nick Burdett, having a huge playoff resurgence, driving in a pair to make it as 4-3 game.

Welland answered back in the bottom of the 3rd, adding on a pair of runs to bring Sucre's run tally to 6 yet again, and putting Brantford behind 6-3. Brantford's bullpen took over in the 4th inning and fared no better, immediately loading the bases before recording a single out. By the time the Red Sox escaped yne inning, Welland led 9-3.

Adding injury to insult, Welland starter Alberto Guerrero hit 2 Brantford batters with pitches in the 6th inning. The Red Sox were still unable to capitalize by scoring any runs however, leaving the bases loaded. And Welland continued to do what they do, running the score up into double digits. Final score was 15-3. 

With tonight's loss, the Brantford Red Sox's 2023 season has concluded. Best of luck to all of the teams continuing on in the playoffs.
