Red Sox Fall Just Short in Season Opener Against Majors

BRANTFORD, ON – May 11, 2025 – The Brantford Red Sox opened their 2025 Intercounty Baseball League season with a hard-fought battle at Arnold Anderson Stadium on Sunday afternoon, ultimately falling 6-5 to the visiting London Majors after a late ninth-inning rally.

The Red Sox entered the ninth inning locked in a 5-5 tie before London’s Charlie Bowman delivered a two-out RBI single to give the Majors the edge. The hit scored Kaiden Cardoso, who had tripled earlier in the inning and was a thorn in Brantford’s side all game, finishing with three hits including a triple, a double, and an RBI.

Brantford’s offence was led by a standout performance from Jeremie Veilleux, who collected four hits and drove in a run. Lucas Bateman had a strong start to the season, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Tim Holyk chipped in with an RBI of his own.

On the mound, Jeremias Sucre got the Opening Day start, tossing three innings and giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out three and issuing no walks. Aidan Armitage was tagged with the loss, surrendering the go-ahead run in the ninth.

Despite the result, the Red Sox showed plenty of promise with timely hitting and a competitive edge that kept the game close throughout. Brantford will look to bounce back on Friday as they continue their 2025 campaign.
