Walker Hultgren has brought a combination of collegiate success, professional experience and defensive versatility to the Brantford Red Sox outfield this season.

Before arriving in Brantford, Hultgren spent four seasons at Dakota State University, where he developed into an impressive offensive player. Across 183 collegiate games, Hultgren hit .337 with 209 hits, 53 doubles, 24 home runs and 126 RBIs, while reaching base at a .423 clip.

His best offensive season came in 2023, when he produced a remarkable .393 batting average, .474 on-base percentage and 1.122 OPS. He collected 77 hits, including 23 doubles and nine home runs, while driving in 43 runs in 54 games.

Following his collegiate career, Hultgren took the next step with the Ogden Raptors of the Pioneer League in 2025, gaining experience at the professional independent level before joining the Red Sox.

Holding Down Center Field

Since joining the Red Sox, Hultgren has become a regular presence in center field, using his athleticism to patrol one of the most demanding defensive positions on the diamond.

At the plate, he has contributed throughout the lineup with 35 hits, 20 runs and 20 RBIs in 35 games, including six doubles and a pair of home runs.

Hultgren has also shown an ability to make an impact in a number of different ways. Whether getting on base, using his speed, driving in a run or covering ground in the outfield, he gives Brantford another well-rounded option on both sides of the ball.

Stepping Up in Big Moments

Hultgren has delivered several memorable moments since joining Brantford, including one of the biggest hits of the Red Sox season.

On Canada Day, he came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth of a back-and-forth game against Chatham-Kent and delivered the walk-off hit, completing a thrilling 9-8 Red Sox victory in front of the home crowd.

More recently, Hultgren has continued contributing during Brantford's late-season surge. He collected three hits, three runs and an RBI during one of the victories that helped the Red Sox put together their first six-game winning streak in more than a decade.

Those moments have shown his ability to contribute when the Red Sox need it most.

A Strong College Career

Hultgren's collegiate numbers show the offensive potential he developed before arriving in Brantford.

After hitting .236 as a freshman, his average climbed to .330 in 2022, .393 in 2023 and .324 in 2024. Over his final three seasons at Dakota State, he also hit 23 home runs and collected 51 doubles.

By the end of his four-year career, Hultgren had produced a .337/.423/.542 slash line and .965 OPS, providing a strong foundation for his move into professional baseball.
