Sutherland Goes Deep Twice in Sox Loss

by B. Young

The Brantford Red Sox travelled to Jack Couch Park on Thursday night to take on the Panthers for the final time this regular season. Both teams were in big need of a win - Brantford having dropped 6 of their last 7 games, and Kitchener's last win coming in Brantford back on August 11 with 5 straight losses since.

Liam Sutherland gave the Kitchener Waterloo fans a taste of what's to come when he's with the Waterloo Warriors in a few weeks by hitting two home runs - a solo shot in the 2nd inning, and a two run blast in the 3rd. Unfortunately Brantford then gave up 6 runs in the bottom of the 3rd, giving Kitchener a then 8-4 lead. Player/Manager Matt McGovern had to come in as pitcher for the 2nd night in a row to provide cleanup duty for the depleted Brantford bullpen. A 3 run Panthers homerun in the 6th then put things out of reach, with a final score of Kitchener Panthers 11 Brantford Red Sox 4. Kitchener sweeps the season series with Brantford 5 games to 0, in what could potentially be a preview of the first round of the IBL playoffs.

No rest for the Red Sox as they are right back home on Friday night hosting the Barrie Baycats, game time is 8 pm at Arnold Anderson Stadium.  Advance tickets are available at brantfordredsox.com/tickets. This is also Rogers TV's IBL Game of the Week, available on Rogers TV channel 20 in Brantford.
