Red Sox Walk It Off After Dramatic Ninth-Inning Rally Against Hamilton

BRANTFORD, ON — The Brantford Red Sox showed plenty of resilience on Saturday afternoon, storming back in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat the Hamilton Cardinals 6-5 in thrilling walk-off fashion at Arnold Anderson Stadium.

After carrying a 4-1 lead into the sixth inning, the Red Sox found themselves trailing 5-4 entering their final at-bat after Hamilton scored three runs over the final three innings. With their backs against the wall, Brantford delivered when it mattered most.

The Red Sox built their early advantage in the third inning, sending nine batters to the plate and scoring four runs. Jakob Cantor started the rally after being hit by a pitch before Brody Black singled to put runners aboard. Walker Hultgren opened the scoring with an RBI single, and consecutive hit-by-pitches to Andrew Savage and Christian Ortega forced home two more runs. Lucas Bateman added an RBI groundout to cap off the four-run frame and give Brantford a 4-0 lead.

Starting pitcher Colbey Klepper was outstanding through the first five innings, holding Hamilton scoreless while allowing just two hits. The Cardinals finally broke through in the fourth inning on a solo home run from Brandon Nicoll before adding another run in the sixth to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Hamilton continued to chip away in the seventh inning when Angel Guerrero drove in Evan Magill, making it a one-run game. The Cardinals then completed the comeback in the ninth inning, scoring twice on RBI hits from Darlin German and Trevor Nicoll to take a 5-4 lead.

Facing their final three outs, the Red Sox refused to quit.

Walker Hultgren ignited the rally with a leadoff double before Nick Iannantone tied the game with a clutch RBI single to center field. After Andrew Savage was hit by a pitch, Christian Ortega delivered the game-winning hit, lining a single to left field that scored Ethan Paulos and sent the home crowd into celebration as Brantford secured the 6-5 walk-off victory.

Hultgren led the offense with two hits, including the crucial ninth-inning double and an RBI. Nick Iannantone collected two hits and drove in the tying run, while Christian Ortega finished with two RBIs, including the walk-off winner. Brody Black also contributed a hit and a walk as part of the Red Sox attack.

On the mound, Klepper gave Brantford a strong start before the bullpen took over. Haldon Craig worked through the late innings and earned the victory after Brantford's dramatic comeback.

The win improved the Red Sox's momentum during a busy stretch of the schedule and provided fans with one of the most exciting finishes of the season so far.

Brantford will look to carry that energy into its next contest as the Red Sox continue their push through the heart of the 2026 campaign.
