Red Sox Host Cardinals in Home Opener

by B. Young

After kicking off their season last night in Welland, the Brantford Red Sox hosted the Hamilton Cardinals in their 2022 home opener.

Unfortunately, the visitors spoiled Brantford's homecoming, quickly jumping to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looking back. The Red Sox only managed to muster up one run on 3 hits, and fell to the Cardinals 11-1.

Brantford starter Bennett Moore was charged with the loss, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits while striking out 5 over 3 innings. Jackson Soucie fared better in relief, striking out 8 over 3 innings, while surrendering just 1 run on 4 hits. Alex Gowing closed things out, allowing 5 runs on 4 hits while striking out 4 in his 3 innings of work.

Liam Sutherland, Shamil Ubiera, and Jacob Reid contributed the trio of Brantford hits.

Brantford now gets Saturday off to regroup before travelling to Toronto to face the Maple Leafs on Sunday at 2 pm. The Brantford Red Sox are then back at home Friday May 27 hosting the Kitchener Panthers in a rematch of last season's playoff quarterfinals. Advance tickets available at brantfordredsox.com/tickets
