Red Sox Wrap Weekend vs. Majors
BRANTFORD - The Brantford Red Sox wrapped up their busy 3 games in 3 days weekend hosting the defending IBL champion London Majors. Brantford last faced London in the semifinals of the 2021 playoffs, with London winning the series 2-0 (the IBL adopted a modified best of 3 series format in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
The game started out as a pitching duel, with both teams trading scoreless first and second innings. The defending champs would strike first in the 3rd though. A two out, Cleveland Brownlee broken bat single shifted the momentum and would lead to 2 Majors runs. Brantford would answer back in the 4th, finally getting to London starter Owen Boon with a 2 out Shamil Ubiera single, followed by a Nick Burdett double. A wild pitch, and a Spencer Jamieson double would even things at 2-2 after 4 innings.
Things went south for the Sox in the 5th however, with the Majors scoring 4. Brantford battled right until the end, putting runners on base every inning for the rest of the game, but could not capitalize. London would go on to tack on 2 more unanswered runs for an 8-2 final.
Brantford's depleted pitching staff continued to be a factor. Red Sox starter Gabe Bruder pitched well on short rest (having been used in relief on Friday night), striking out 5 in the first 4 innings before London's big inning in the 5th. Brantford new recruit Yusei Teraoka, as well as Jr. call-up Danny Howat, and Brian Lui also pitched in relief.
Shamil Ubiera, Spencer Jamieson, and Zach Lampreia each contributed a pair of hits for Brantford. Overall Brantford had 11 hits, but left 7 runners on base while cashing in just 2.
Brantford is back in action this Wednesday June 1 hosting the Hamilton Cardinals. Game time is 8 pm at Arnold Anderson Stadium, advance tickets available at brantfordredsox.com/tickets
