Red Sox Late Surge Falls Short in Game 2

by B. Young

BRANTFORD - After dropping game Game 1 of their Quarterfinals series with the Majors 8-0 on Friday night in London, the Brantford Red Sox had a quick turnaround for game 2 back home. With 0 runs on just 3 hits in game 1, the Red Sox hoped that being back home  might help their performance in this David vs. Goliath postseason matchup with the defending IBL champs.

The good news is the Brantford Red Sox did finally rebound at the plate. And on most nights, scoring 7 unanswered runs would provide a good chance at a win. Brantford did just that on Saturday night against London. Unfortunately for the Red Sox, those 7  runs came in the game's later innings, after the Majors had already scored twice that. Brantford finally found their fight, but it came too late on this night. Final score was London Majors 15 Brantford Red Sox 7.

FOR BRANTFORD - Brantford showed the potential of this team in the 6th through 9th innings tonight. The Red Sox worked counts, took advantage of a struggling bullpen, forced the opposition into making mistakes, and moved baserunners. From the 6th inning onward Brantford put 14 baserunners aboard, scoring 7 runs on 6 hits in the process. The key for the Red Sox, as it has been all season long, is executing that for a full 9 innings - and that is what they have struggled to do.

NEXT UP - The Brantford Red Sox now face elimination in Game 3 of the series, which goes Sunday at 6 pm at Labatt Park in London. Brantford will need to carry the momentum from the last half of Saturday night's game directly into Sunday, and keep it going for the full game. The odds are against them, but the Brantford Red Sox can still make a series out of this if they choose to. If The Red Sox can pull off a win at Labatt Park, game 4 of the series will go Tuesday night at 8 pm at Arnold Anderson Stadium in Brantford.
