Sox Get Soaked in Kitchener

by B. Young

KITCHENER - The Brantford Red Sox travelled to Kitchener on Monday night for the second time, but first game, this season. This game was a makeup for their June 9th rainout, in which the game was cancelled due to a last minute downpour after the Sox had already made the trip to Jack Couch Park.

Ironically, this game would experience a brief rain delay in the 4th inning with Brantford trailing 5-0. The weather would improve, Brantford's chances unfortunately would not.

The story of the night for the Red Sox was their inability to string hits together. Brantford put their leadoff batter on base in every inning from the 1st through the 6th, but managed to convert all of this opportunity into just 1 run. Meanwhile Kitchener, coming off a pair of games where they were outscored 43-4, scored in every inning from the 1st through the 6th. Brantford attempted a last minute rally in the 9th, with Jesse Fishbaum cashing in Nolan Gallagher for the second time on the evening, and Nick Burdett adding a 2 run blast, but it was not enough as Brantford fell 9-4 to Kitchener.

FOR BRANTFORD: Jesse Fishbaum had 3 hits and 2 stolen bases. Liam Sutherland also added 2 hits and a stolen base.

NEXT UP: The Red Sox have their work cut out for them this week, with 4 more games in the next 6 days. Brantford is back home on Wednesday hosting the Hamilton Cardinals, and Friday hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs - both games are an 8 pm start at Arnold Anderson Stadium. The Sox then visit Guelph on Saturday before wrapping the week back in Kitchener on Sunday.
