Brantford Red Sox Encourage Vaccination
The Brantford Red Sox encourage all of our players, coaches, volunteers, and fans who are eligible to get vaccinated against COVID-19!
The Brantford Red Sox are optimistic that a 2021 Intercounty Baseball League season can be played. Under Ontario's Three-Step Roadmap to Safely Reopen the Province, outdoor sports leagues (with restrictions) are permitted under Step 2. Step 2 is in effect once:
- 70 per cent of adults are vaccinated with one dose, and
- 20 per cent vaccinated with two doses
Restrictions under Step 2 should be announced by the Province in the coming weeks.
As mentioned previously, the Intercounty Baseball League has appointed Dr. Tim Rindlisbacher as the league’s Chief Medical Officer. He is currently coordinating with the provincial government and member clubs to develop a return-to-play plan for the 2021 season.
The IBL plan will include a myriad of scenarios around fan capacity and distancing, masks, the use of clubhouses and buses, concessions, and many other items. The IBL is working towards a start date of around July 5, with regular-season games into early September, followed by a shortened playoff season.
Online vaccination booking is currently available for those aged 12+ through the Brant County Health Unit's website. The BCHU strongly recommends online booking. Those unable to book online can call 519-753-4937 and press "2" to access their booking line. Those outside of the Brant County Health Unit's area should consult the Province of Ontario's COVID-19 vaccination website.
Let's all do our part to strike out COVID-19 and get back to the ballpark!
