Brantford Red Sox at Toronto Maple Leafs

Sunday July 7 - Dominico Field at Christie Pits, Toronto

After winning their first game of the year in Toronto in the league's traditional season opener back on May 5, the Brantford Red Sox could not imagine that they would go on to lose their next 20 games.  The Red Sox visited Toronto  2 months later hoping that returning to the scene of that win, the friendly confines of Christie Pits, would help break their losing streak.

After a scoreless first inning, Brantford drew first blood in the second.  Nick Burdett hit a solo home run, and Anthony Rizquez drove in Luis Perez.  The Sox gave one run back to Toronto in the bottom of the inning, Sox led 2-1 after 2 innings.

Signing deadline Dougie Parks hit his 2nd home run in as many days in the 3rd inning. And Giofranco Morello added a solo shot of his own in the 4th.  Sox led 4-1 after 4 innings.

The floodgates then opened in the 5th inning. Brantford batted around and put 7 runs on the board, taking a commanding 11-1 lead into the 6th inning.  They say no lead is safe at the Pits however, and it would be a tense 4 more innings before there would be any celebrating.

The score would indeed hold, making a final score of Brantford Red Sox 11, Toronto Maple Leafs 1.

Great all around team effort on both offence and defence from Brantford. Not to be overshadowed by the team's bats, Brantford starter Edison Frias tossed a solid 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 8.  Michael Bucci and Mike Bannon also pitched scoreless relief for Brantford.

Brantford's next game is back home this Wednesday July 10th, hosting the London Major at 8 pm at Arnold Anderson Stadium.
