Sox Bounce Back To Split The Home and Home

by B. Young

The Brantford Red Sox headed to Welland on Thursday night to wrap up a home and home series against the Jackfish. Brantford dropped Wednesday night's game vs. Welland 6-1, snapping the Red Sox winning streak at 3 games. This was also game 4 of a gruelling 5 games in 6 days stretch for Brantford.

Welland picked up right where they left off the previous evening, scoring 2 in the first inning. But Brantford answered back, scoring 4 in the top of the 2nd and adding on another in the 3rd to take a 5-2 lead.

Both teams were then idle until the 6th inning when Brantford got into the Jackfish bullpen, scoring 4 more. Brantford led 9-3 after 6 innings.  The Jackfish chased Sox starter Gabe Bruder from the game in the 7th, scoring 3 runs to cut the lead to 9-6.

Brantford threatened in the 8th but left the bases loaded. Fortunately they would not need any further insurance this evening and hung on for the 9-6 bounceback win.

Bruder went 6 and 2/3 innings in his tenth appearance this season, but just his first start for the win.  Bruder's longest appearance previously was 4 and 2/3 innings in Kitchener back on July 30. Nick Davies pitched 1 and 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out 3. And infielder/reliever extraordinaire Jason Pineda moved from third base to the mound to close out the 9th and earn the save.  Mike Deluca and Robbie Gauther led the Sox with 3 hits apiece in a big team win to split the home and home series.

On Friday the Red Sox are back home as we welcome Brantford Olympian Erika Polidori to Arnold Anderson Stadium to throw out the first pitch on Brantford Minor Softball  night. And please note - that this is one of only 2 Brantford Red Sox home games remaining in the regular season! Make sure you use up any unredeemed tickets from previous games before the playoffs.
