Ribas Named Director Of Pitching by Tigers

by Brantford Red Sox staff

Congratulations to Brantford Red Sox alumnus Gabe Ribas, who has been named Director of Pitching by the Detroit Tigers. Ribas had been with the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers for the past 4 years as Pitching Coordinator, where he "worked across many areas within player development, including coaching staffs, performance science, strength and conditioning, baseball analytics and others to construct and maintain a highly individualized and comprehensive pitching development program," according to a release from the Tigers.

Ribas played in the Intercounty Baseball League from 2008-2011, winning 4 IBL championships the Brantford Red Sox. After his playing career Ribas went on to coach NCAA Division I baseball before landing with the Dodgers.

Ribas delved into many areas of player development with the Dodgers. One well-respected member of Los Angeles' organization described him as a "great, hard working, intelligent guy" to the Detroit Free Press.

"We're trying to bring in new people that have a better understanding of (advanced analytics) and can teach it, so that our entire player development system — from top to bottom — is running on the same wheel," Tigers GM Al Avila told the Free Press. "A guy like Gabe Ribas is a very similar hire to Chris Fetter. You'll see a lot of initiatives from Chris Fetter going down to Gabe Ribas and then all through the minor-league system."

On behalf of the Brantford Red Sox organization, congratulations and continued success, Gabe!
