Red Sox Drop Heartbreaker in Hamilton, Look to Bounce Back at Home Sunday
HAMILTON, ON - May 16, 2025- The Brantford Red Sox came within one out of their first win of the 2025 season, but a ninth-inning rally by the Hamilton Cardinals saw them walk it off, handing Brantford a narrow 9–8 loss on Friday night at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium.
The Red Sox showed resilience all night and erupted for four runs in the top of the ninth to take an 8–7 lead. The rally was powered by clutch hits, including a go-ahead three-run homer from Tim Holyk—his first of the season. Holyk had a standout performance, scoring three times and sparking the late-game momentum.
Matt Torresan added two RBI, while Jose Vinicio delivered an important run-scoring single in the ninth. Christian Ortega chipped in with a pair of hits to help fuel the offence.
Starting pitcher Nicholai Arbach turned in a solid performance, going five innings and allowing just two runs on two hits while striking out five. Gabe Bruder was tagged with the loss in relief, though both runs he allowed were unearned following a pair of walks and a defensive miscue that loaded the bases.
Despite the loss, the Red Sox (0–2) have dropped both games by just one run and have shown flashes of strong play as the young season gets underway.
Brantford returns to Arnold Anderson Stadium this Sunday, May 18, for their home opener against the Guelph Royals. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM and admission is free. Come out and support your Red Sox as they chase their first win of the year.
